TELEDYNE SUCCESSFULLY TESTS
HIGH SPEED DATA (HSD) SATCOM PRODUCT
LOS ANGELES - May 29, 2002 - Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced that its Teledyne Controls business unit, together with EMS Technologies, Inc., successfully completed a flight test of EMS' High Speed Data (HSD) Satcom product, HSD-128, onboard a Dassault FalconJet 900EX. The four-hour test flight took place in Little Rock, Ark.
The HSD-128 is the first two-channel High Speed Data Satcom system capable of uncompressed 128Kbps symmetric bandwidth over the Inmarsat Swift64 Service. During the test flight, the HSD-128 used voice and data channels simultaneously, utilized air-to-ground and ground-to-air voice calls, successfully browsed the Internet in real-time and sent and received email utilizing an onboard laptop computer.
Offered exclusively by Teledyne Controls for the general and business aviation market, the HSD-128 is manufactured by EMS Technologies, a world leader in Satcom terminals and antenna technology. HSD Satcom is an integral part of Teledyne's Airborne Executive Office product line, which also includes the MagnaStar® airborne digital telephone, Wireless GroundLink™ (which provides wireless transfer of data to and from the aircraft over existing cellular/internet infrastructures), cabin printer/fax, wireless network access points, and an airborne server.
"Teledyne's Airborne Executive Office provides a seamless airborne environment which is similar to that expected in a terrestrial office," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies. "The HSD Satcom product provides global digital geo-stationary satellite communications with 25 times the speed and efficiency of previous airborne Satcom systems. Teledyne's Airborne Executive Office allows the aviation community to be connected and to stay efficient."
