Teledyne Brown Engineering President To Receive Prestigious Medaris Award

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 29, 2004) - The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Tennessee Valley Chapter will present James M. Link, president, Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) with their prestigious Medaris Award during an awards ceremony tonight at the Huntsville Marriott. Link is the second Teledyne Brown executive to receive the award. Former TBE president Joe Moquin received the honor in 1984.

The award, which is presented annually, is given to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the defense industrial community. Past awardees include Dr. William McCorkle, Senator Howell Heflin, Dr. Jullian Davidson and Roy Nichols.

"NDIA chose retired general Jim Link to be this year's recipient because his military career, personal life and character are exemplary of the high standards established by General Medaris," said Joel Thomas, president, NDIA, Tennessee Valley Chapter.

"I am very honored to have been selected for this award," said James M. Link, president, Teledyne Brown. "General Medaris is a leader I have immense admiration for and I am humbled to be in the company of individuals who have made such a tremendous impact on our region and our military. I thank NDIA for this honor."

The Medaris Award was first presented in 1981 in recognition of the accomplishments of MG John B. Medaris who was the first Commanding General of the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA) at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, former Commanding General of the U.S. Army Ordnance Missile Command (AOMC) and a leader in the Army's space exploration efforts. The Medaris award consists of a bust of MG Medaris, a certificate, and the winner's name along with previous winners on a like bust in the Sparkman Center.

General Link was commissioned in 1967. During his career, he served as Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Material Command, Commander of the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal and MICOM Deputy Commanding General. He was also a commander in Operations Desert Shield and Storm and the Vietnam conflict.
